The stems of a flax plant are filled with strong sinuous fibres that have been used in the production of linen for centuries. It also makes it very difficult to harvest when damp or immature. Farmers usually swath flax and let it dry out before harvest so it doesn't damage their equipment. Photo credit: Farm & Food Care Sk
